About

Paul Robertson, PhD

I am a freelance academic skills coach, editor and proofreader and sport and exercise tutor. My aim is to help people develop their academic skills and their ability to communicate their work in writing.

I have over 15 years experience of teaching sport and exercise science (and related subject areas) on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in several UK universities. During this time, I helped students to develop both their subject-specific knowledge and understanding and the academic skills needed to underpin their subject-specific studies. In addition to my experience of higher education, I am an AS and A Level Physical Education Examiner for Cambridge Assessment International.

Alongside teaching, I have been — and continue to be — involved in research and academic writing in the fields of sport and exercise science, vision science and musculoskeletal injury and rehabilitation. Here is more information about my academic publications and writing. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and have provided editing and proofreading services to academics who required support with their writing before submitting their work to scientific journals for publication.

As well as my experience in academia, I have worked in the health and fitness industry and as a sports coach in schools and colleges. I played rugby union for many years before switching sports and taking up judo. Having taken up judo, it was the focus for my PhD thesis and several academic publications and I continue to train and compete.
